What to do when SuperPlacer does not respond, conflicts with another tool or behaves unexpectedly.
The tool does not respond
Check these in order.
- SuperPlacer is asleep. While it sleeps, the Stripe UI is gone and the selected actor shows the engine's standard gizmo. Press Shift+CapsLock or the sleep button on the main toolbar. The button's tooltip shows the state: "SuperPlacer is sleeping — click to wake" or "SuperPlacer is active — click to sleep".
- The focus is not in the viewport. SuperPlacer hotkeys work only when the keyboard focus is in the level viewport — just like the standard Unreal Engine keys. After working in Details, the Outliner or Sequencer, click in the viewport.
- The cursor is in a text field. While you type in an input field, SuperPlacer doesn't take the keys.
- Digits don't open Touch&Type. The cursor must be over the viewport. Also check the Open on Number Keys setting — see Settings.
- Another editor mode is on. If the sleep button's tooltip says "SuperPlacer (inactive in this editor mode)", SuperPlacer is off because of another mode. See "Conflicts with other editor modes" below.
Resetting the tool
If SuperPlacer is stuck — the keys don't work and you see the engine's standard gizmo instead of its own, although it is not asleep — give control back to it with a console command.
- Open the editor console: the Cmd field at the bottom of the editor window or in the Output Log.
- Type
SP.HardResetand press Enter.
The command wakes SuperPlacer up, lifts the suspension, gives the viewport back to it and hides the standard gizmo. It doesn't touch the settings.
If you also need the settings back at their defaults, delete the settings file while the editor is closed — see Settings.
Conflicts with other editor modes
SuperPlacer works on top of the selection mode (Selection Mode) and Modeling Mode. It doesn't combine with other editor modes such as Landscape or Foliage: when you switch to such a mode, SuperPlacer turns off, and when you return to the selection mode, it turns on again.
Modeling Mode. Inside the modeling tools the SuperPlacer gizmo works: it takes the place of the tool's own gizmo — see Modeling Mode. The exception is Transform UVs: while it is open, SuperPlacer stays out of it and comes back by itself when the tool closes.
If SuperPlacer doesn't come back after a modeling tool closes, run SP.HardReset. To keep SuperPlacer off Modeling Mode
altogether, clear Enable on Modeling Mode in the SuperPlacer Settings window.
Standard engine keys. While SuperPlacer is awake, Q, W, E, R, C, A and I belong to it. It also takes its own shortcuts from the SuperPlacer Hotkeys window — for example F5–F8, N, U, End, [ and ], Ctrl+R — when they apply to something. If you need the standard gizmos or your own shortcuts on these keys, put SuperPlacer to sleep or give its commands other keys — see Hotkeys.
Warnings when building from source
If you build SuperPlacer from source — the plugin is in the Plugins folder of a C++ project, or the engine is built from
source — the build may show three "Plugin 'SuperPlacer' does not list plugin …" warnings. They are harmless: the optional
Modeling Mode plugins cause them. To avoid them, install the plugin into the engine from Fab. See
Installation.
Reporting a problem
Write to us on the SuperPlacer Discord: https://discord.gg/wts4pPx8cS
To help us find the cause faster, include:
- The Unreal Engine version.
- The plugin version: the SuperPlacer → About menu, the Version line.
- The steps that led to the problem, and what you expected to see.
- The editor log:
<project folder>/Saved/Logs/<project name>.log. Copy it right after the problem — the next time the editor starts, it begins a new log. - A screenshot or a short video, if the problem shows in the viewport.
